Our Story
Spring Agric was founded to tackle a pressing challenge: women and youth are the backbone of Africa's agriculture sector but face the harshest effects of climate change. Despite this, they continue to innovate, adapt, and lead—often without recognition or support. We saw an opportunity to change that.
Founded by Nyambura Simiyu and Carren Mwanzia—two Kenyans who grew up in smallholder households and experienced leaders in sustainable agriculture and gender equity—Spring Agric blends on-the-ground training, media storytelling, and expert consultancy to build resilience from the ground up.
Why We Exist
Agriculture is Africa’s backbone—supporting millions and ensuring food security. But climate change is threatening its future, with droughts alone causing 65% of the region’s agricultural losses.
To build a resilient sector, we must recognize and support women and youth as key change agents - they are not just victims.
Why 1
- They power the system, now and in the future: Women make up 70% of smallholder farmers, and youth under 25 are over 60% of Africa’s population - the future of agriculture. Additionally, As men increasingly migrate to urban centers for employment opportunities, women are taking on greater responsibilities in farming, leading to a "feminization" of agriculture.
Why 2
- They adapt better: When provided with equal access to resources, women are more inclined to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.
Why 3
At Spring Agric, we’re shifting the narrative—putting women and youth at the center of Africa’s climate-smart agricultural future.
